Quick and easy mincemeat recipe

Here is my super quick and easy Mincemeat recipe. There’s no cooking involved and its literally just a combining of all the ingredients. You will need:

  • 200g raisins
  • 200g currants
  • 200g sultanas
  • 125g beef suet (or use vegetarian)
  • 300g dark brown sugar
  • 50g candied peel
  • 1/4 nutmeg, grated
  • 1 tbsp mixed spice
  • Finely grated zest of 1/2 lemon and 1/2 orange
  • Juice of 1/2 a lemon and 1 orange
  • 250g apples weighed after peeling and coring, finely chopped
  • 100ml calvados

In a large bowl, add all the ingredients in the order shown and mix thoroughly. Spoon into sterilised jars and press down the mixture to remove any air bubbles. Seal the jars tightly and leave the mincemeat to mature for at least a couple of weeks.

This mixture is also great as a base mincemeat for then customising with different flavours of your own, such as, fresh cranberry and pecan, apple and chestnut or orange and almond.

The mincemeat will keep for up to six months if stored in the fridge.
