Hello, I’m Elisabeth, founder of the network of One Mile Bakeries across the UK. My day job is working with the other bakers, but during lockdown I thought I’d crank up my bread oven and get baking again. So, welcome to the Lockdown Pop-Up Bakery, housed in a half-renovated cottage in Trudoxhill and delivering loaves and some other bakes to the village and up to Nunney. Ordinarily, a One Mile Bakery delivers to subscribers just within a mile and by bike. But in these strange times, we are doing things a bit differently. The bread we make has the same core values as my original micro-bakery in Cardiff, though: bread made with beautiful organic, stoneground flour (all from the south-west), water, salt and either yeast or our sourdough starter – no additives or preservatives, no nasties, and all made on a long, slow ferment basis so that the bread is easy to digest and full of flavour.
We deliver two miles from our location in Trudoxhill
Yes, I know, we are called One Mile Bakery. But just as everything else is new now, we have abandoned that bit, so we are now the Two Mile Bakery! Also, we don’t deliver by bike these days, on these lanes, because we don’t have the smart Lycra (or leg power). This is how it works, for as long as I can get flour: order by noon on a Monday for a delivery that week. We will deliver to Trudoxhill and nearby houses between 3-5pm on a Wednesday. We will deliver to Nunney between 3-5pm on a Thursday. On Fridays, 3-5pm, we will deliver across both villages, depending on demand. We will confirm your slot once we have your order. We may offer extra delivery days and we may be able to deliver to other villages: we will be working this all out in the first couple of weeks – bear with us! Please leave a box outside your front door so we can drop your delivery into it. We have made everything as contactless as we can here, putting extra food safety measures in place, and we will just leave the bagged delivery in your box/container with no contact or knocking on doors etc. Each week, we’ll remind everyone we are on our way so you can put a container outside.
