Baking with Kids: Fun and Simple Recipes for Little Hands

Baking with kids is a wonderful way to bond, teach life skills, and create delicious memories. But where to start? Kids thrive on hands-on activities, so recipes that involve mixing, shaping, and decorating are perfect.

Top Tips for Baking with Kids:

Keep it simple: Choose recipes with a few ingredients and clear steps.

Embrace the mess: Baking is supposed to be fun, not tidy.

Get creative: Let them shape the dough or sprinkle seeds on top.

Easy Recipe Idea:

Try making simple bread rolls together. They’re perfect for little hands to shape and bake quickly.

Ingredients:

500g strong white bread flour

1 tsp salt

7g instant yeast

300ml warm water

2 tbsp olive oil

Mix the ingredients, let the dough rise, then shape into small rolls. Bake at 200°C for 15 minutes. Watch your kids light up when they see their creations come out golden and delicious.

The very process of getting a feel for each loaf, with a watchful eye of Boudicca has helped me make so much sense of the natural progression of bread-making and now I have a strong reference point for how my dough should feel when I bake it at home - hopefully with similar success!
