Behind the Stall: What I Love About St Thomas Brillsville Market and Repair Cafe

There’s something truly special about a local market, and St Thomas Brillsville Market is one of my favourite places to be.

Once a month, the community comes alive just off Cowick Street with the hum of chatter, the scent of fresh produce and coffee, and the wonderful mix of stalls offering everything from handmade crafts to delicious food.

For me, it’s a chance to step out of my bread shed microbakery and meet the brilliant people who enjoy my bread. There’s nothing quite like the face-to-face feedback, the excitement when someone spots their favourite loaf, or the lovely conversations about sourdough starters and baking disasters (we’ve all had them!).

I always come away buzzing with ideas – and often with a bag full of goodies from fellow traders.

Brillsville isn’t just a market. It’s a celebration of our neighbourhood’s creativity, resilience and warmth. I feel incredibly lucky to be part of it, and I can’t wait to share more seasonal bakes, fresh from the oven, with you all at the next one.

Come and say hello – and don’t forget to bring a bag!

I can’t tell you how much fun the day was. We laughed and chatted our way throughout. Boudicca was a fabulous host and completely natural with her teaching. This Introduction To Baking course is far from pretentious and stuffy. It’s a laid-back affair which felt like I was hanging out with my friends doing something fun.
